Dubbed “The Black Sundance,” the Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) is an annual 4-day celebration of Black Cinema drawing together established filmmakers, popular film and TV stars, writers, directors, industry executives, emerging artists, and diverse audiences from Southern California and around the world. HBFF’s INFOTAINMENT CONFERENCE features a wealth of informational panels and workshops covering a wide variety of topics which include: film production, distribution and marketing, pitching, writing for television and film, in addition to specific programs designed to inform and educate actors.

James Lopez joined Screen Gems as a senior vice president of production in July 2010. His focus is being a conduit between film, music and youth culture by utilizing his previous experiences and applying them to the production process of projects currently being developed at Screen Gems. Previously he spent more than 18 years in the music business in various creative positions and lead Atlantic Record’s marketing department for a decade. He has worked with world renowned artists T.I., Bruno Mars, Flo Rida, Estelle, Sean Paul, B.o.B, Treysongz, Gerald Levert and many more.

His very first project as a Screen Gems executive was the box office hit “Think Like a Man,” which debut as the No. 1 film and grossed over $90M. His second production Battle of The Year will be released September 2013 and he is currently wrapping production on About Last Night.
